Lesson/Assignment:
The Heart That Beats Through Shakespeare's Writings

Assignment:
Today the students learned about iambic pentameter through activies with Dr. Suess and Shakespearean Sonnets. They learned about the structure of Shakespeare's Sonnets and how to begin breaking them down for interpretation.

Assignment:
On your handout, paraphrase Sonnet 116. Read it out loud to yourself after you have paraphrased Shakespeare's words. Have someone else read it to you with your eyes closed to help you visualize the speaker of the sonnet. After you have done this, please write down your interpretation of the sonnet (or adaptation to your own time period). This is due this Friday.

Write a Sonnet--Due Monday
Please write a sonnet using the following words as your line enders:
1 frog
2 face
3 smog
4 place
5 tree
6 short
7 free
8 torte
9 movie
10 lost
11 groovy
12 cost
13 love
14 dove

Remember, these have to make some sense. Also remember that not all of the words are going to be the end of your sentence or thought, just the end of your line. Refer to Shakespeare's sonnets if you have questions about how to structure the sonnet. You may write this in your own language, not Shakespeare's (but if you want a challenge, try writing it like Shakespeare would).
