Lesson/Assignment:
Background on the Civil Rights Movement

Assignment:
Friendly Letters are due today!

The students will create their portfolios for language arts today.

The students will participate in an activity that will help them find meaning in some of the vocabulary words from the video we watched on Monday.

The students will be split into groups and given two words per group. They will be asked to present during block period what the definition of that word is, in terms we can understand. They will also be illustrating the definition of the word with real life examples so that we can fully grasp the meaning of the word. This will help us to connect with Maya Angelou's personal account of her life as an African American child in the South before the Civil Rights Movement.

The words we will be looking at are: segregation, prejudice, discrimination, abolish, and freedom.
