Assignment:
Today the students will participate in their first FREE WRITE of the year. A FREE WRITE is when they write continuously in their journals for five minutes about a topic.

The students will have an orientation to the book on pages 12 and 13 before they begin reading the story Charles out loud in class.

Assignment--Prepare these four questions for a large group discussion on Friday:
1. Why does Charles become a well-known character to the family?

2. While reading the story, what clues led you to believe that Charles was Laurie?

3. Why do you think Laurie invented Charles?

4. How do you think this story would be different if Laurie were starting 8th grade and he invented Charles? Explain.

Please write the definitions to these four vocabulary words from the story in your note's section of your journal and write one sentence for each of them:
swaggering
insolently
simultaneously
cynically
DUE FRIDAY

The rest of the class time will be used to prepare the questions and work on their timelines that are due on Friday.
