Introduction of The Outsiders

Understandings:
Critical Thinking
The students will use their critical thinking skills to write about the buzz words outsider, gangs, greasers, and social when they hear them spoken out loud. They will also be asked to write about this question: What problems/issues affect you in your life today in Iowa? They will be asked to share their viewpoints and make logical predictions about how these words might help them to connect with The Outsiders.

The students will also learn about S.E. Hinton's background and why she wrote The Outsiders.
